Music Reels

The Brief

We were contacted by Beatworx, the company behind the biggest DnB festival – Let It Roll – to do a bunch of visuals for social media to promote the upcoming summer event. We were basically given a few names and free rein to do anything we wanted as long we included the names of artists and labels involved.

The Execution

In short, we chose to go against what we would be typically doing and bring 3D typography animation back into the real world where you get real physical behavior in comparison to simulations. It is basically model making – something that would be done in the 90s on movies like Star Wars. We could really lean into our strengths – my technical background for use of 3D printing, DIY and camera work and Dan’s amazing skills in post production as a motion designer.

This is how we did it

We also made two episodes on how all of this was achieved. Here is one of them. They do have English subtitles though, so do not get discouraged by us speaking Czech!

Keeping the ideas flowing

From pouring buckets of paint to fluorescent filament, freezing with compressed air, diffraction on soap bubbles to achieve an illusion of outer space – we experimented a lot and that is what made it interesting for the viewer.

The numbers

In the two years we worked on this project we generated around 40 reels, worked on 4 different events and helped to sell a lot of tickets for the festival. 🙂
